General Objectives of the English Language Curriculum

1.To provide learners with learning experiences to increase their language proficiency for study, work, leisure and personal enrichment;

2.To develop their knowledge, skills, values and attitudes;

3. To promote lifelong learning so as to enhance their personal and intellectual development cultural understanding and global competitiveness.

Strategies employed

As suggested by the curriculum guide, learning efficiency is enhanced when teachers take into account learners’needs, interests and abilities, which vary at different stages and indifferent settings.

In order to empower and strengthen pupils’ with these, the strategies that our school employed included:

• using stories as the medium to motivate pupils’ reading interests and learning needs

• applying suitable questioning techniques to stimulate thinking andcreativity

• encouraging pupils to contribute in group work or pair work for quality interactionby:

− sharing their views and learning experiencesthrough discussions and classroom presentations;

− playing an active role in classroomactivitiessuch as singing, role-plays, dramas, games,and projects.
